Initial Encounter

We’ve recently welcomed an undergraduate to the team who is in their final year of a BA in Engineering with Honours in Electronic Engineering.  Fatima’s first experience with 2M was on a tour of the company during an industry visit when she was 16 years old as part of a summer youth program in 2019 called NCS (the National Citizen Service). The service actually closed in March 2025, though not before inspiring this budding multi-faceted creative.

Automation Animated

It was seeing all the machinery and wiring that sparked Fatima’s already growing interest in engineering,

By the end of my visit, I curiously asked if I could do a brief placement.

That placement was indeed facilitated in Autumn 2019 for a day a week across several weeks to gain some insight and hands-on experience. Fatima shadowed both the electrical and software departments and helped with a live project at the time which involved using software to reboot stacks of PLCs for a new task before assembling them into housing units for PCBs.

Six years later, with an end to my engineering degree in sight, I looked them up and asked if they were open to giving me another placement since the last one had been so memorable.

I came in for an interview and soon after I was offered a position in the team. I look forward to seeing how my career grows as I explore automation and industrial robotics with 2M.
