WAAM Cell
Safe, Reliable, Repeatable
Pooling 10 years of WAAM experience and over 30 years of welding experience, the experts at Arc Additive walk you through the design and functionality of their WAAM Cell used to produce high-integrity metal components.
Arc Additive CEO Jamie Mincher introduces this 6-Axis Robot termed The Manipulator by robot manufacturers ABB. With it's large footprint and extended reach of 2.5 metres by 2.5 metres, this solution produces parts in Titanium, Inconel (which is a family of nickel-chromium-based superalloys), Super Alloys, and Steels.
Next up is Arc Additive's Welding Director Robert Graham taking us behind the scenes...

Quality every time.
Simple stuff works.

As Robert advises, this Dual Process machine provides both MIG (Metal Inert Gas welding, which creates an electric arc between a consumable wire electrode and the base metal) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas welding, which uses a non‑consumable tungsten electrode to create the arc) welding.
The part dictates the welding process, with more exotic materials lending themselves to TIG.
Fronius provides the power source, and the heating plate manages the thermal gradient. The full operator interface is positioned outside the cell, with the run screen showing all sets of parameters whilst cataloguing each piece for full traceability whilst operators can view the entire process via the welding camera.
