The Ironclad Case for Cladding
In an age of ever increasing environmental awareness, our cars are still parked on the driveways and our pans are still bubbling away on gas cookers. Here we are in a seeming bind, wanting the best for our planet yet embroiled in the modern way of life. So oil and gas reserves take on an enhanced importance. Extracting them with minimal waste and to the highest standard becomes a point of absolute necessity.
That’s where cladding comes in. The search for reserves heads further away from shorelines, and into ever deeper waters. The pipes required to extract the elements must be incredibly strong and robust. High grade protective materials are incredibly expensive, and with the increased need for thick-walled and large-diameter clad pipes, driven by the new high-pressure and high-temperature drilling environments, extractors can be tempted to cut corners.
This is why old catastrophes used to happen. The lower the quality of the protective material chosen, and the less protective material is used to coat the steel pipes beneath, the less costly the pipe preparation will be.
So there it is in a nutshell, by virtue of that fact the only remaining way to assure safety and durability of pipes going into the field is to make as dependable and robust the process of protective material cladding as possible. Cladding being the process of meticulously fusing protective material onto steel pipes in layer upon layer of defense. The smoother the surface of the layers, the less friction and flow resistance will be experienced by the pipes. In turn, these factors again positively affect the lifespan, safety, and security of the pipes in action.
Take this a step further and involve 2Ms groundbreaking work with 3D inspection cameras, and the procedural options evolve yet again to include full scale inspection of pipes before they head toward their watery homes. This provides absolute assurance that the piping is flawless with no points of weakness, and provides traceable milestones between providers and buyers.
